Enamel Erosion: The Facts

Posted .

Have you heard that your enamel is actually extremely strong? In fact, your enamel is actually one of the hardest substances in your entire body. Still, even though your enamel is extremely hard, it can still be weakened or worn down. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to recognize and identify weakened enamel.

Of course, you should remember to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. Still, even though you should keep your teeth clean, did you know that you should wait thirty minutes before you brush? You see, after you eat–especially after you eat sugary or starchy foods–your enamel will actually be weakened. After thirty minutes, your enamel will harden again. Sadly, if you brush while your enamel is weakened, you could actually damage your teeth.

If your teeth are yellowed or seem transparent, you could have weakened enamel. Unfortunately, some medications could also damage your enamel. If you think your enamel could be weakened, we recommend calling Chicago Bright Smiles at 312-642-5107.
